If you've ever wandered into the world of rock or blues, chances are, you've heard of our featured musician for the month of May. Known to many as a member of the band Gov't Mule, he has long been intertwined with the music industry.
Starting his career at the young age of 20 years, Haynes joined David Allan Coe's band for recording and touring. After years had gone by, he found himself in Nashville, working with bands such as the Rich Hippies and the Nighthawks. It wasn't until 1989 that Haynes' career skyrocketed as he was chosen to join the Allman Brothers Band. During his time with the band, he formed a side band with bass guitarist Allen Woody known as Gov't Mule and in 1997 he ended his stint with the Allman Brothers Band to devote his time and attention to this newly formed project.
On top of his music successes with both the Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule, Haynes also co-founded Evil Teen Records and is a part of a band known as The Dead. You will also find that there have been a few solo projects in his career with a solo album and two different acoustic albums.
No matter where his projects have taken him, Haynes always gives back to his hometown community. He is a substantial supporter of the Habitat for Humanity Charity. Every year since 1989, he travels back to his hometown of Asheville during the Christmas season to perform a benefit concert entitled "Christmas Jam". The proceeds from the show are then donated to Habitat for Humanity. This show brings in a wave of talent as many musicians donate their time to create a wonderful night of music.
Haynes has given us many memorable songs with the Allman Brothers and Gov't Mule but we still believe that he still has plenty of shows to play, songs to write, and different music projects ahead of him. We are privileged and honored to spotlight responsible musicians like Warren Haynes.
